Glen Manor Haus
A ravine home defined by quiet luxury and natural light
Living within the ravine landscape
Located at the edge of the Glen Manor Ravine, Glen Manor Haus was designed as a long-term family home shaped by its natural surroundings. The clients approached us with a desire for a contemporary home that balanced openness and privacy, creating spaces for everyday family life, entertaining, and quiet moments within the landscape.
Set at the end of a secluded cul-de-sac, the property offers a rare relationship with mature trees and changing seasonal views. The surrounding neighbourhood includes a mix of early-century homes and newer construction. The narrow lot, limited access, and proximity to the ravine required thoughtful consideration of the home’s scale, orientation, and construction approach.
Responding to a constrained urban site
The challenge was to create a spacious home on a compact urban property while respecting the character of the ravine edge. The design needed to provide openness across four levels while maintaining privacy and creating a comfortable transition between interior spaces and the surrounding landscape.
Drawing light through every level
The design is organized around a central stair that acts as a vertical light register, bringing daylight through the centre of the home. Openings on three sides, together with carefully placed skylights, allow natural light to reach deep into the interior and create changing qualities throughout the day.
The exterior composition uses angled planes, recessed balconies, and layered façade elements to reduce the perceived scale of the home. A material palette of fine stucco, black-stained cedar, and composite stone establishes a durable exterior expression, while white oak, brick tile, muted millwork, and natural finishes continue throughout the interior.
The main floor is organized around a generous kitchen, dining, and living area with direct access to the garden. Upper levels provide private bedrooms, including a principal suite positioned above the tree canopy with access to a roof deck overlooking the ravine and distant views toward Lake Ontario.
A home shaped by quiet luxury
Glen Manor Haus explores quiet luxury through restraint, craftsmanship, and a considered relationship between material, light, and proportion. Natural finishes, tactile surfaces, and a consistent material language create a sense of refinement throughout the home.
Every element has a purpose. The central stair connects the four levels, exterior materials continue indoors, and each space is shaped around the way the family lives. The result is a contemporary home that feels calm, enduring, and closely connected to the character of its ravine setting.
The project has been featured in National Post, Nuvo Magazine, Build Canada, Aspire Metro, Design Skill, i2dinspiration, and Archina, coverage that has continued since the home’s completion in 2025.
